Who we are
Mothers in Science is a grassroots global nonprofit organisation registered in France (N˚ W343028090) founded by Isabel Torres and Sonal Bhadane in 2019. Our international team of volunteer professionals in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) spans across the globe, with members based in countries including France, USA, Canada, Honk Kong, Portugal, UK, Nigeria, Finland, Australia, Germany, Brazil, Italy and New Zealand.
As the leading global nonprofit advocating for mothers in STEMM, we are dedicated to driving workplace equity and inclusion for caregivers through evidence-based solutions.
Our rapidly growing organisation represents thousands of students and professionals in STEMM worldwide, from various fields and employment sectors, including the social sciences and humanities.
Since our inception, we have broken myths and started important conversations to raise awareness of the systemic barriers and inequities that stymie the career advancement of mothers in STEMM. We have also created valuable resources to support and empower mothers in STEMM, and have built a diverse, supportive global online community where they can connect with like-minded peers and find relatable role models.
Our groundbreaking research has revealed that maternity bias and discrimination is widespread in the STEMM sector and identified structural and societal barriers holding mothers back. Based on this research, we are creating evidence-based solutions for promoting workplace equity and inclusion in STEMM.
